Socialism in Action—Ontario Power Generation

Do not think about, write about or deal with  human behavior without determining the effects of incentives. It’s not their money, of course they’ll waste it.

The word socialism is tossed around, but what it means is the control and\or direct operation of production of important goods and services such as food, housing, fuel, electricity, etc. In my jurisdiction of Ontario, we have electricity generation controlled by the government. The workers in this system are overpaid in the extreme. We have a huge amount of pointless green energy such as windmills and solar panels, a huge administrative overhang, very expensive rates and this puzzling anomaly:

I just noticed my electricity bill has a penalty adjustment payment. I looked for the explanation. Here it is from the website of the government agency:.

"Customers connected to the PowerStream Distribution System shall operate at a “power factor” within the range of 0.9 lagging to 0.9 leading as measured at the meter point.
If Customers operate outside the specified power factor range, Customers are subject to a penalty adjustment on their electric bill."

So that clears that up. How do you like socialism so far?

I enjoy this comedy because I’m sure paying enough for it.
